[v6 General Discussion] Is K-lite still recommended?
3 CommentsSorted by Oldest First
EW6 uses QuickTime to decode videos; so K-Lite not needed for that function. However it uses DScaler to play DVDs and some versions of K-Lite included it; so if you uninstall K-Lite you'll need to install DScaler ([url:3gg360kv]http://deinterlace.sourceforge.net/downloads.htm).
Yes I understand that it uses Quicktime, but QT isn't going to decode all the different options out there which is why people install codec packs in the first place. I was just wondering if this was still the recommendation from the EW team or if they feel that the QT decoder is enough. We do run into odd formats from visiting ministers so perhaps we should just install K-lite anyway.
You can install K-Lite codecs but neither EW6 not QuickTime will use them. It appears as though QuickTime supports codecs but they need to follow Apple's rules ([url:1fq8v963]https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204382).
Hopefully someone from EW with inside technical knowledge will clear this up.
