[Equipment Configurations] using a shared or network drive

Hi All. Has anyone used a shared or network drive with EW 6 to store your profiles/resources so one office computer can assemble a schedule during the week and a second computer can display the schedule in the sanctuary during the service? If not, what's a recommendation for transferring the schedule while keeping the database synchronized? Will "Save As + Pack Videos" be sufficient? Thanks. Frank J Palacino Corpus Christi, Tx

Hello!

Open the EasyWorship PDF manual from this https://www.easyworship.com/help/EasyWorship6Manual.pdf:1kmt9xl9]link and go to page 60 this will walk you though setting up a shared database.
I tried to use a NAS box over a 100 meg connection. The resulting latency was unacceptable (3-5 sec, depending on the media.) I have yet to try it over gigabit.
Hi!

At the present time NAS is not supported.
We store everything on a second SSD drive on our projection computer. We then mapa drive on all necessary computers, even the projection computer. That way all computers use the same drive letter. Everything is backed up daily by a server.

This allows multiple users, but also allows our service to go on even if there are network issues.
I went to page 60 in the manual but didn't see anything about how to set up a shared database. HELP!
Sorry about that. This is an old post, so at that time it was on page 60. We've had time to update the manual and add more content, so if you search for network database you should find it on page 133. You may also find this information under help, EasyWorship Help, Technical and Profiles. Hope that helps. Feel free to post if you have any other questions.

Hi Terry,

Can please you clarify what is supported, and why the difference?

Hi!

EW will work on a Windows network since it is a client server database now.

It will work on a shared Windows drive as well.

I go this information from Rodger about NAS.

"NAS drives usually have a Linux OS that uses a different permissions technology called SAMBA which is supposed to function like the Windows SMB permissions, however sometimes those permissions don't always look the same to the software that is trying to access them, which could cause the software to think it doesn't have access to the files it needs to connect to. Our next update should provide better compatibility. We have tested with our in house Western Digital NAS in the public folder and it seems to be working for us."

Hi,
Just got a prompt today to upgrade from 6.5.5 to Version 6.7.4. Does this include the network fix above?
How does this preform over a VPN? Obviously the actual production computers are on the local gigabit network, but over a Cisco Anyconnect VPN would it be good enough for people to add things/modify the db from home?
It should work ok, but will be slower.

Just noticed that the System Requirements page doesn't have a caveat about lacking NAS support now. Still has the bit about OneDrive etc though. Wonder if support for NAS was quietly snuck in somewhere? I've read the release notes upto 6.7.8 and it's not mentioned anywhere.

Nothing really has changed with Network support. Nothing has been snuck in.
We normally have issues with Permissions on NAS drives. Last week we worked with a Synology drive and had to go through the following steps to make EW work with it.

I'm assuming you already have a file share open that the EasyWorship computer can access.
Create a folder in that share called EasyWorship or whatever you want to call the folder you are putting the EasyWorship profile in.
If there is already an existing folder, you can skip creating the folder.
In Windows explorer right click on the folder that containing the EasyWorship profile.
Click on properties
Click on the Security Tab
Click Edit
Click Add
Add the user "everyone" without the quotes.
Give that user full control of the folder.
Click OK
EW should then be able to work with that folder.
It's been a while, but we did some testing on a Synology NAS drive and were able to write instructions for setting up a shared profile. Here's a link to the instructions.
